Attitude and Knowledge of Pain Management Among Italian Nurses in Hospital Settings.
Pain is multidimensional, and, as such, the chief reason patients seek urgent healthcare services. If inadequately assessed and untreated, pain may negatively impact on the quality of life of the patient. Treating pain is an important step in regaining control over quality of life. ⋯ Our survey has highlighted an overall limited level of knowledge in the assessment and management of pain among the nursing staff. It is therefore a priority to implement specific training to healthcare providers from different fields, who may respond differently to patients with pain. On the other hand, further investigations are required on a greater sample of Italian nurses to better understand how to overcome the most problematic barriers to achieving good pain assessment and control.

Multicenter StudyKnee Osteoarthritis Worsening Across the Disease Spectrum and Future Knee Pain, Symptoms, and Functioning: A Multisite Prospective Cohort Study.
Prognostic estimates for knee osteoarthritis worsening over the full disease spectrum have not been reported. Osteoarthritis Initiative data were used to determine the association between knee radiographic osteoarthritis worsening and future knee pain and function. ⋯ K/L worsening over a 1-year period is prognostically important over the short term for all baseline K/L grades, and for knees with baseline K/L grades of 2 or 3 worsening continues over the following year.

Platelet rich plasma versus corticosteroid injection for plantar fasciitis: A comparative study.
Intractable plantar fasciitis can be a difficult condition to treat. Early results of platelet rich plasma (PRP) injection have been promising. We compared PRP to traditional cortisone injection in the treatment of chronic cases of plantar fasciitis resistant to traditional nonoperative management. The aim of the study was to compare the efficacy of PRP to that of Steroid at 3, 6 and 12 months after injection. ⋯ PRP is as effective as Steroid injection at achieving symptom relief at 3 and 6 months after injection, for the treatment of plantar fasciitis, but unlike Steroid, its effect does not wear off with time. At 12 months, PRP is significantly more effective than Steroid, making it better and more durable than cortisone injection.

Dynamic weight-bearing assessment of pain in knee osteoarthritis: a reliability and agreement study.
To evaluate the reliability, agreement and smallest detectable change in a measurement instrument for pain and function in knee osteoarthritis; the Dynamic weight-bearing Assessment of Pain (DAP). ⋯ The reproducibility of the DAP pain score meets the demands for use in clinical practice and research. The total knee bend could be useful for motivational purpose in clinical use. Testing of other psychometric properties of the DAP is pending.

An Expedited Diagnostic Algorithm for Lumbosacral Pain: "The Best Likelihood Scenario Approach".
The logic behind diagnostic blocks is very straightforward. What has not been determined is the way diagnostic blocks can be best used. ⋯ "The Best Likelihood Scenario" might improve diagnostic accuracy while decreasing societal costs.
