Evaluation of an effectiveness and safety of the electroacupuncture in the management of intractable neuropathic pain: A prospective, open-labeled, randomized, cross-over clinical trial.
There is no sufficient evidence on the effectiveness of acupuncture for neuropathic pain. This protocol describes a study that aims to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of electroacupuncture combined with conventional medicine for patients with intractable neuropathic pain, when compared with conventional medicine alone. ⋯ The study protocol for this trial will provide up-to-date evidence on the effectiveness and safety of electroacupuncture for patients with intractable neuropathic pain. The results will be disseminated through a peer-reviewed journal and conference presentations.

Factors with impact on magnitude of the placebo response in randomized, controlled, cross-over trials in peripheral neuropathic pain.
The presence and magnitude of placebo responses is important for the outcome in clinical trials of analgesics. This explorative study aimed at identifying patients and trial-specific factors with impact on this response in randomized, controlled, cross-over trials in peripheral neuropathic pain. Data were derived from 7 trials and included observations on pinprick hyperalgesia, allodynia, and pain on repetitive stimulation. ⋯ The findings were similar in patients having placebo in the first treatment period. There was no marked difference between patients with (n = 43) and without (n = 275) a clinically meaningful placebo response with respect to the patient-specific factors including frequency of sensory signs and symptoms. In conclusion, this study on cross-over trials in peripheral neuropathic pain found no robust impact of trial and patient-specific factors on the placebo response.

Local Administration of Methylcobalamin for Subacute Ophthalmic Herpetic Neuralgia: A Randomized, Phase III Clinical Trial.
The ophthalmic branch of the trigeminal nerve is one of the most frequently involved sites of postherpetic neuralgia. A single-center randomized controlled study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of local methylcobalamin injection for subacute ophthalmic herpetic neuralgia (SOHN). ⋯ This study indicates that local injection of methylcobalamin produces significant pain relief from SOHN and is superior to systemic administration.

High Frequency (HF10) Spinal Cord Stimulation for Chronic Neuropathic Pain.
Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is well established treatment. In a prospective randomised controlled trial, novel 10-kHz High-frequency Therapy (HF10 Therapy) was superior to traditional low-frequency SCS for the treatment of chronic back and leg pain. ⋯ The patient reported 90% pain reduction at follow-up. Thoracic HF10 SCS is effective modality in managing chronic neuropathic pain.

Long-term safety and efficacy of mirogabalin in Asian patients with postherpetic neuralgia: Results from an open-label extension of a multicenter randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.
Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) is a condition that results from nerve dysfunction following an episode of acute herpes zoster (shingles). Mirogabalin is a novel, selective oral α2δ ligand that demonstrated safety and efficacy in a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled 14-week study in Asian patients with PHN. This 52-week, open-label extension study investigated the long-term safety and efficacy of flexible-dosage mirogabalin in Asian patients with PHN. ⋯ Mirogabalin-a novel α2δ oral ligand-was shown to be effective and well tolerated for treating postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) in an Asian multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, 14-week study. This open-label, 52-week study was conducted as an extension of the double-blind study to demonstrate long-term safety and efficacy of mirogabalin.
