The histone deacetylases (HDACs) have been implicated in pain hypersensitivity. This study investigated the potential involvement of an HDAC4-related mechanism in the spinal nerve ligation (SNL)-induced nociceptive hypersensitivity. ⋯ Neuropathic pain maintenance involves the spinal SGK1 activation-dependent HDAC4 phosphorylation and its subsequent association with 14-3-3β that promotes cytoplasmic HDAC4 retention in dorsal horn neurons.

The Effects of Intraplantar and Intrathecal Botulinum Toxin Type B on Tactile Allodynia in Mono and Polyneuropathy in the Mouse.
Mononeuropathies (MNs: nerve ligation) and polyneuropathies (PNs: cisplatin) produce unilateral and bilateral tactile allodynia, respectively. We examined the effects of intraplantar (IPLT) and intrathecal (IT) botulinum toxin B (BoNT-B) on this allodynia. ⋯ BoNT-B given IPLT and IT yields a long-lasting attenuation of the allodynia in mice displaying MN and PN allodynia.

Neuropathic Pain Components in Patients with Lumbar Spinal Stenosis.
To determine the prevalence and characteristics of neuropathic pain (NP) in patients with lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) according to subgroup analysis of symptoms. ⋯ One-third of the patients with LSS had a NP component. The presence of radicular pain correlated strongly with NP. The severity of leg pain and ODI score were also closely related to a NP component. This data may prove useful to understanding the pain characteristics of LSS and in better designing clinical trials for NP treatment in patients with LSS.

Neuropathic pain can be overlooked in cancer patients. The advent of screening tools can help in recognizing it. However, little is known about their relative diagnostic performance and factors that affect it. This study evaluated the prevalence of neuropathic pain using several diagnostic strategies in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. ⋯ Neuropathic pain is common in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. The DN4 might be of great help for the early detection of patients at risk because of incipient chemotherapy-related neuropathies and the LANSS to rule out neuropathic pain in patients with complex pain conditions.
