Role of peripheral nerve stimulation in treating chronic neuropathic pain: an international focused survey of pain medicine experts.
Interventional pain management (IPM) options for refractory neuropathic pain (NP) have recently increased with availability of peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) equipment and expertise. Given a lack of high-quality evidence and guidelines on this topic, we sought to understand the perception of physicians with expertise in treating NP regarding IPM and the role of PNS. We emailed a survey in March 2022 to international NP experts including pain medicine physicians, researchers, and leaders of 11 professional pain societies. ⋯ Twenty-two respondents (92%) agreed PNS should be offered early in the treatment of neuropathic pain. The most common barriers to PNS use were cost, lack of high-quality evidence in support of its use, lack of exposure to PNS in training programs, and lack of familiarity with the use of ultrasound guidance. PNS appears to have an increasing role in the treatment of NP but more research is needed on the outcomes of PNS to elucidate its role.

Virtual Reality Treatment of Severe Neuropathic Pain in an Adolescent Child: A Case Report.
We describe virtual reality (VR) used as an effective intervention to treat severe chronic neuropathic pain in an otherwise healthy adolescent boy. The patient presented with severe pain and allodynia in the right foot after calcaneus extension surgery. ⋯ VR gaming intervention provided the patient with significant pain relief and substantial improvement in functionality. This case report details the VR intervention and its effect on the patient's severe, medically refractory pain syndrome.

Longitudinal Change in Brain Functional Connectivity with Herpes Zoster Patients: Neuroimaging Case Series.
The exact mechanism involved in the development of postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) is not yet known. The objective of this study was to evaluate longitudinal functional connectivity (FC) changes in the neuroimaging case series of patients with acute herpes zoster (HZ). Cases: This study included five patients who had symptoms of HZ. ⋯ The left SFG is known to contribute to higher cognitive functions and working memory. The right IFG is associated with pain processing and empathy for pain. Conclusions: Although only a few patients were enrolled in this study, the PHN could be affected by pain itself, as well as pain memory and psychological aspects such as empathy for pain.
