This article (Correspondence) is in response to the recently published study by Elewa et al. in BMC Anesthesiology that compared the erector spinae plane block (ESPB) versus paravertebral block (PVB) regarding postoperative analgesic consumption following breast surgeries. I greatly appreciate the authors for publishing this study which is one among a very few studies available on this topic. I wish to present my reflections on this article as well as add a few more points on this topic.

Fluoroscopic anterior approach versus ultrasound guided superior hypogastric plexus neurolysis in cancer pelvic pain: a randomized controlled study.
Cancer-related pelvic pain can be difficult and debilitating to treat. Superior hypogastric plexus neurolysis (SHPN) is a good choice for adequate pain relief with fewer side effects. The current study compared between fluoroscopic anterior approach and ultrasound guided SHPN in the management of cancer-related pelvic pain. ⋯ The fluoroscopic anterior approach SHPN was more superior than the US guided SHPN regarding the time of the procedure and patient satisfaction, while both technique were similar regarding the numeric rating scale and the complications during block.

The efficacy of ultrasound-guided anterior quadratus lumborum block for pain management following lumbar spinal surgery: a randomized controlled trial.
Quadratus lumborum block (QLB) is a fascial plane block. There is no randomized study on the efficacy of QLB for lumbar surgery. We evaluated the efficacy of QLB for postoperative pain management and patient satisfaction after lumbar disc herniation surgery (LDHS). ⋯ We found that the QLB is effective for pain control following LDHS.

Herpes zoster and post-herpetic neuralgia showed an increasing incidence during past two decades. Most of herpes zoster and post-herpetic neuralgia patients suffered from pain, anxiety, and depression. Fire needle combined with cupping is becoming a popular way to relieve the pain caused by herpes zoster and decrease the incidence of post-herpetic neuralgia. In this study, we aim to investigating the efficacy and safety of fire needle combined with cupping for the treatment of acute herpes zoster and postherpetic neuralgia (PHN). ⋯ This review will provide certain evidence to compare the efficacy and safety of combined acupuncture and cupping with guideline recommended drug or nerve block therapy for the treatment of herpes zoster and post-herpetic neuralgia. It will potentially provide more clinical suggestions and guidelines for health care professionals, policymakers, and researchers.
