Meta AnalysisThe opioid sparing effect of erector spinae plane block for various surgeries: a meta-analysis of randomized-controlled trials.
The erector spinae plane block (ESPB) is a newer fascial plane block which has been broadly applied for postoperative analgesia after various surgeries, but the effectiveness in these populations is not well established. ⋯ ESPB may be a useful addition to the multimodal analgesic regimen for a variety of surgeries especially when the alternative is no block. Unanswered questions include determining of the mechanism of action, refining of the EPSB technique, and establishing recommended local anesthetic dose and volume.

Celiac Plexus Block - An Old Technique with New Developments.
Celiac plexus block (CPB) is an interventional technique known to be effective in the management of abdominal pain caused by pancreatic cancer. ⋯ Over the years, the majority of clinical trials have focused on fluoroscopy-guided CPB. Computed tomography-guided blockade of celiac plexus is the next choice among pain physicians and percutaneous ultrasound-guided CPB is a relatively new technique. The data generated over the years does not point to a single technique being the gold standard for CPB and choice of technique may be guided by the individual's preference, familiarity with the technique, and institutional practice.

Generic versus reference listed ropivacaine for peripheral nerve blockade: A randomised, triple-blinded, crossover, equivalence study in volunteers.
Generic drug preparations do not require the same degree of scrutiny as the originally licensed preparation before they can be approved for clinical use. The permitted tolerance limits for bioequivalent preparations might be associated with clinically relevant differences for drugs with a narrow therapeutic index, such as local anaesthetics. ⋯ Our finding of equivalence for sensory block duration and key pharmacokinetic variables between a generic and original preparation of ropivacaine is reassuring. The significant, but small, difference in pH is not clinically important.

Randomized Controlled TrialObturator nerve block does not provide analgesic benefits in total hip arthroplasty under multimodal analgesic regimen: a randomized controlled trial.
Although regional analgesia is considered an important component of optimal pain management, use of peripheral nerve blocks for total hip arthroplasty remains controversial. Since the obturator nerve innervates the anteromedial part of the joint capsule, we hypothesized that an obturator nerve block would decrease the opioid consumption after total hip arthroplasty. ⋯ Obturator nerve block did not improve postoperative opioid consumption after total hip arthroplasty performed under general anesthesia with a multimodal analgesic regimen.

Verification of Sphenopalatine Ganglion Block Success Using Transcranial Doppler in Management of Patients with Postdural.
Sphenopalatine ganglion block (SPGB) is traditionally advised in the management of head and neck pain. Since SPGB is a minimally invasive, repeatable, and simple technique, SPGB should be tried first in the management of postdural puncture headaches (PDPH). Verification of the block's success in diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic nerve blocks, is of paramount importance in pain management. ⋯ Performing SPGB without standardized equipment may limit the results of the current studyCONCLUSIONS: SPGB should be considered as a first treatment modality for PDPH. Moreover, the results indicate that TCD is a successful objective tool in assessing a transnasal sphenopalatine ganglion block.
