Endotracheal intubation is a key skill for clinicians and may be challenging in some patients due to various reasons. Nowadays, various kinds of videolaryngoscopes are available and usually used as a rescue device when direct laryngoscopy failed. Pediatric airway has some differences when compared with adults and may be challenging. This study aims to compare and evaluate C Mac D-Blade and commonly used Macintosh laryngoscope in pediatric patients. ⋯ C Mac D-Blade videolaryngoscope shortened intubation time about twice when compared to Macintosh blade C Mac D-Blade videolaryngoscope, Videolaryngoscopes may be a good alternative for routine intubation, education and a rescue device for difficult intubation.

Nasopharyngeal tubes in paediatric anaesthesia: is the flow-dependent pressure drop across the tube suitable for calculating oropharyngeal pressure?
Nasopharyngeal tubes are useful in pediatric anesthesia for insufflating oxygen and anesthetics. During nasopharyngeal tube-anesthesia, gas insufflation provides some positive oropharyngeal pressure that differs from the proximal airway pressure owing to the flow-dependent pressure drop across the nasopharyngeal tube (ΔPNPT ). ⋯ During nasopharyngeal tube-assisted anesthesia, proximal airway pressure readings on the anesthetic monitoring machine overestimate oropharyngeal pressure especially for smaller-diameter nasopharyngeal tubes and higher flow, and to a lesser extent for large leaks. Given the importance of calculating oropharyngeal pressure in guiding nasopharyngeal tube ventilation in clinical practice, we propose an accurate calculation using Rohrer's equation method, or approximating oropharyngeal pressure from flow and pressure readings on the anesthetic machine using the ΔPNPT charts.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is associated with abnormal inflammatory and coagulation markers, potentially mediating thrombotic events. Our objective was to investigate the incidence, time course, laboratory features, and in-hospital outcomes of COVID-19 patients with suspected venous thromboembolism (VTE). ⋯ Male sex, elevated CRP, and elevated platelet count at admission were associated with VTE on univariable analysis. However, only male sex remained significant on multivariable analysis. Older age, active malignancy, disseminated intravascular coagulation, and elevated D-dimer at admission were independently associated with death for patients hospitalized with COVID-19.
