Endotracheal suctioning (ES) provokes a cumulative hemodynamic response by activation of sympathetic and parasympathetic circuits in the central nervous system. In this proof-of-concept study, we aimed to analyze hemodynamic changes during ES in ventilated subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) patients and investigated whether the associated hemodynamic changes relate to the time to arousal and functional outcome. ⋯ Augmentation in heart rate may quantify the hemodynamic response during endotracheal suctioning in brain-injured patients. The value as a biomarker to early discriminate the time to arousal and functional outcome in acutely brain-injured patients needs prospective confirmation.

Novel airway device Vie Scope in several pediatric airway scenario: A randomized simulation pilot trial.
Endotracheal intubation of pediatric patients is challenging, especially in the pre-hospital emergency setting and if performed by less experienced providers. Securing an airway should be achieved with a single intubation attempt, as each intubation attempt contributes to morbidity and mortality. A new airway device, the VieScope, was recently introduced into clinical market, but efficacy to reduced intubation attempts remains unclear thus far. ⋯ Results of this simulation study indicate preliminary evidence, that the VieScope enables adequate endotracheal intubation in the pediatric setting. Further clinical studies are needed to confirm these results.

Treatment with noninvasive oxygenation strategies such as noninvasive ventilation and high-flow nasal oxygen may be more effective than standard oxygen therapy alone in patients with acute hypoxemic respiratory failure. ⋯ In this network meta-analysis of trials of adult patients with acute hypoxemic respiratory failure, treatment with noninvasive oxygenation strategies compared with standard oxygen therapy was associated with lower risk of death. Further research is needed to better understand the relative benefits of each strategy.

The clinical effect of dexmedetomidine combined with parecoxib sodium on sedation, antianxiety and prevention of intubation stress in patients undergoing functional endoscopic sinus surgery: a randomised controlled trial.
To investigate the effect of intravenous injection of dexmedetomidine combined with parecoxib sodium on sedation and anxiety and stress response of tracheal intubation in patients undergoing functional endoscopic sinus surgery. ⋯ Preoperative intravenous infusion of dexmedetomidine combined with parecoxib sodium by functional nasal endoscopy can not only calm and resist anxiety, but also better prevent stress response of endotracheal intubation, which is a safe and effective way of preoperative medication.

Ultrasonography for nasogastric tube placement verification: an additional reference.
Nasogastric tube (NGT) insertion is a common procedure performed by community nurses, but verifying correct placement can be challenging due to the limitations of conventional methods. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of point-of-care ultrasonography (POCUS) for verifying NGT placement and to explore the feasibility of using this imaging modality as the first-line reference for NGT placement verification. The validity of the gastric aspirate pH test was also evaluated. ⋯ The sensitivity and specificity were found to be 95.45% and 100%, respectively, for POCUS, and 90.91% and 100%, for the pH test. POCUS can provide accurate diagnostic imaging of nasogastric tube position and avoid X-ray controls. This imaging modality can complement pH testing in community settings where X-ray scans are not readily available.
