Social prescribing connects patients to resources or activities to meet their non-medical needs. In the UK, it is often implemented in primary care. In the social prescribing pathway, patients are directed to link workers to identify suitable solutions for their needs such as art workshops or welfare benefit guidance. Social prescribing marks a notable transition from traditional medical treatments to more comprehensive strategies focusing on holistic health and wellbeing strategies. Insights from patient experiences can improve the development of social prescribing to better meet their needs. This understanding can aid in improving the delivery and outcomes of social prescribing. ⋯ Patients might experience lasting advantages from social prescribing if it aligns with their needs and expectations. Results highlighted the importance of matching social prescribing referral with patients' readiness to engage. Therefore, it is recommended that healthcare professionals evaluate patient suitability prior to beginning a social prescribing referral.

Severe respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) pneumonia is a leading cause of hospitalization and morbidity in infants and young children. Early identification of severe RSV pneumonia is crucial for timely and effective treatment by pediatricians. Currently, no prediction model exists for identifying severe RSV pneumonia in children. ⋯ This study identified specific biomarkers and developed a diagnostic model for severe RSV pneumonia in children. These findings provide a robust foundation for early identification and treatment of severe RSV pneumonia, offering new insights into its pathogenesis and improving pediatric care.

Intrathecal Drug Delivery System in Prepontine Cistern for Patients with Intractable Craniofacial Cancer Pain: A Multicenter Retrospective Study.
Patients with craniofacial cancer frequently suffer from severe pain. The traditional intrathecal, oral, or intravenous analgesics could only provide insufficient pain relief with many side effects. Thus, a more effective analgesia approach is required. This study aimed to investigate the safety and efficacy of placing the catheter of an intrathecal morphine pump in the prepontine cistern for the treatment of craniofacial cancer pain. ⋯ Placing the catheter tip of an intrathecal morphine pump into the prepontine cistern could effectively relieve refractory craniofacial cancer pain with an extremely low total morphine dose requirement and few adverse events. This procedure could be considered in patients with severe refractory craniofacial cancer pain.

Military aviators may have increased risk of cervical spine injuries because of exposure to supraphysiologic forces and vibration during dynamic flight. Aviator medical attrition impairs mission readiness, decreases operational capabilities, increases overall DoDcosts, and decreases retention of seasoned aviators. This study evaluated incidence and risk factors for cervical spine conditions in U.S. military aviators from 1997 to 2015. ⋯ Military aviators had a statistically significant increase in risk of neck pain and medically disqualifying degenerative cervical spine conditions compared to non-aviator controls. Rates of neck pain increased in all aviators over the study epoch. Possible explanations could be related to the operational demands and the increased use of forward helmet-mounted display systems during the study period, a supposition that requires further investigation. There was no significant difference in rates of neck pain or degenerative cervical conditions between aircraft platforms (fighter/bomber, other fixed wing, and rotary wing). Female sex, age over 40 years, and Army/Marine Corps service were the greatest risk factors for neck pain and degenerative cervical spine conditions. Targeted prevention programs and expanded treatment modalities are necessary to reduce aviator attrition and Department of Defense cost burden.
