Multicenter StudyHealthcare Burden and Resource Utilization After Pediatric Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome: A Secondary Analysis of the Collaborative Pediatric Critical Care Research Network Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome Study.
To describe family healthcare burden and health resource utilization in pediatric survivors of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) at 3 and 9 months. ⋯ Pediatric ARDS survivors report high rates of healthcare burden and health resource utilization at 3- and 9-month post-ARDS. Future studies should assess the impact of improved care coordination to simplify care (e.g., medication management) and improve family burden.

Observational StudyAssociations Between Family-Assessed Quality-of-Dying-and-Death Latent Classes and Bereavement Outcomes for Family Surrogates of ICU Decedents.
To examine associations between family surrogates' bereavement outcomes and four previously determined quality of dying and death (QODD) latent classes (high, moderate, poor-to-uncertain, and worst). ⋯ The four distinct QODD latent classes were significantly associated with ICU family surrogates' bereavement outcomes, suggesting targets to improve end-of-life care quality in ICUs.

Enhancing European Management of Analgesia, Sedation, and Delirium: A Multinational, Prospective, Interventional Before-After Trial.
The objective of this study was to analyze the impact of a structured educational intervention on the implementation of guideline-recommended pain, agitation, and delirium (PAD) assessment. ⋯ In routine care, many patients were not assessed for PAD. Extraneous Load, Patient Census, and Patient Acuity Correlate with Cognitive Load during Intensive Care Unit Rounds.
Cognitive load theory asserts that learning and performance degrade when cognitive load exceeds working memory capacity. This is particularly relevant in the learning environment of ICU rounds, when multidisciplinary providers integrate complex decision-making and teaching in a noisy, high-stress environment prone to cognitive distractions. ⋯ Increased extraneous load, new patients, and patient acuity were associated with higher cognitive load during ICU rounds. These results can help direct how the ICU rounding structure may be modified to reduce workload and optimize provider learning and performance.
