Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccines are a remarkable scientific achievement. The perspective on past viral vaccine performance and viral characteristics, such as incubation period, can help with messaging and instilling vaccine confidence. Protection against mild infection occurs in the short term (months), but the persistence of protection against severe disease will likely endure longer.

Cardiac biomarkers on admission and in-hospital mortality in COVID-19 patients with or without concomitant heart failure.
High‑sensitivity cardiac troponin T (hs-cTnT) and N-terminal pro-B type natriuretic peptide (NT‑ proBNP) are known markers of cardiac injury. However, their role in predicting the severity of COVID‑19 remains to be investigated. ⋯ The level of hs‑cTnT or NT-proBNP predicts in hospital mortality in COVID-19 patients. Both hs‑cTnT and NT-proBNP should be routinely measured on admission in all patients hospitalized due to COVID‑19 for early detection of individuals with an increased risk of in hospital death, even if they do not have concomitant heart failure.

The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus has implicated on mental health and psychopathological sequelae through viral infection. Suggestively, the pandemic-associated stressors (e.g., isolation, fear of illness, inadequate information and supply) may affect the sleep and feedback the depression symptoms, ultimately decreasing the immune system and offering further opportunities for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus infection. Nevertheless, this association still requires investigation. ⋯ One hundred sixty-two volunteers (age = 31 ± 13 years; body mass = 69.8 ± 14.9 kg; height = 168 ± 9 cm) answered the Beck Depression Inventory, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index/Epworth Sleepiness Scale for determination of depression symptoms and sleep variables, respectively. Significant and positive correlations were obtained between Beck score and sleep quality (r = 0.53; P = .000), sleep latency (r = 0.29; P = .000), and sleepiness (r = 0.22; P = .003), but not with sleep time (r = -0.10; P = .175). This report concluded that Brazilians struggling with pandemic-associated stressors with high depression symptoms may have negative impacts on sleep, mainly regarding its quality, latency, and sleepiness.

During the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, we considered the case of a child with developmental language disorder (DLD) who could not go to the hospital on time to receive timely rehabilitation treatment due to disrupted hospital operations. The application of cloud-based rehabilitation platforms has provided significant advantages and convenience for children with DLD in-home remote rehabilitation. Among them, the JingYun Rehab Cloud Platform is the most widely used in mainland China. ⋯ Children with DLD in the cloud-based rehabilitation group performed significantly better in language abilities, as assessed by the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test-Revised, than children with DLD in the control group. Furthermore, for children who participated in remote cloud-based rehabilitation, the frequency of training sessions was proportional to their performance on language, memory, and cognition tasks. This study demonstrated the effectiveness of cloud-based rehabilitation on the JingYun Rehab Cloud Platform in treating children with DLD.
