Gamma knife radiosurgery (GKRS) has emerged as a highly effective therapeutic modality for the management of intracranial meningiomas. However, the role of GKRS in treating growing meningiomas detected during active surveillance remains unclear. This study seeks to investigate the long-term outcomes of GKRS treatment for growing meningiomas. ⋯ In multivariate analysis, factor predicting new or worsening neurological function was preexisting calcification (HR, 5.297; 95% CI, 1.328-21.124; P = .018). GKRS demonstrates a promising level of tumor control with minimal risk of neurological deterioration when applied to growing meningiomas. These findings provide compelling support for considering GKRS as a valuable therapeutic option following an initial period of active surveillance for these tumors.

The role of vestibular function tests in nontuberculous mycobacterial otomastoiditis: A case report.
Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM), an extremely rare pathogen causing cervicofacial infections, may result in permanent hearing impairment or intracranial complications. Due to the lack of specific manifestations during the initial onset of NTM otomastoiditis, physicians may misdiagnose it as cholesteatoma or other common bacterial infections. ⋯ The clinical condition of NTM otomastoiditis may be evaluated using vestibular tests if patients have symptoms of dizziness.

Treatment of osteoporotic distal femur fractures is often complicated by a high rate of nonunion and varus collapse. For such fractures, lateral plating with lateral incision and double plating with anterior paramedial incision have shown promising results in the recent literature. The hypothesis of this study was that bilateral plating of comminuted distal femur fractures in osteoporotic patients would result in higher union rates and lower revision rates compared to an isolated lateral locking plate. ⋯ Dual plate fixation using the anterior paramedial approach is an effective operative method for osteoporotic distal femur fractures. This has many advantages such as precise exposure, easy manipulation, anatomic reduction, and stable fixation. However, for surgical indications and medial bone defects > 1 cm, grafting should be performed.

During the past 3 years of the corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, COVID-19 has been recognized to cause various neurological complications, including rare posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES). In previously reported cases of PRES associated with COVID-19, the majority of patients had severe COVID-19 infection and known predisposing factors for PRES, such as uncontrolled hypertension, renal dysfunction, and use of immunosuppressants. It remains unclear whether these risk factors or infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) contributes to the development of PRES in these patients. Here we report a special case of PRES associated with COVID-19 without any known risk factors for PRES, indicating the SARS-CoV-2's direct role in the pathogenesis of PRES associated with COVID-19. ⋯ The current case had no classical risk factors for PRES, indicating that although the cause of PRES in COVID-19 patients may be multifactorial, the infection of SARS-CoV-2 may play a direct role in the pathogenesis of PRES associated with COVID-19.

The efficacy and safety of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) combined with Silibinin in the treatment of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) are still inconclusive. This meta-analysis intends to evaluation to explore the clinical efficacy and quality assessment of traditional Chinese medicine in combination with Silymarin in the treatment of NAFLD, aiming to aims to provide evidence-based data analysis for researchers and clinical practitioners involved in TCM research for NAFLD, with the hope of facilitating wider adoption and application. ⋯ Traditional Chinese medicine in conjunction with Silibinin capsules has shown significant efficacy in the treatment of NAFLD, improving clinical symptoms, blood lipid levels, and liver function. Furthermore, it is essential to engage in multi-omics research, investigate iron death, and explore the gut microbiota as potential observational indicators for the diagnosis and inclusion criteria. Conducting more high-quality clinical experiments is necessary to further validate these findings.
