MLC901 in hypoxic-ischemic brain injury patients: A double-blind, randomized placebo-controlled pilot study.
Hypoxic-ischemic brain injury (HIBI) is a disabling consequence of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, which has no direct treatment except supportive care. Many studies have used pharmacological agents to reduce or stop this disability. MLC901 is a traditional Chinese medicine showing neuroprotective and regenerative effects on focal and global ischemia in previous animal and human studies. We designed an experimental, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study to analyze MLC901 efficacy in HIBI patients. ⋯ MLC901 has shown, compared to placebo, a statistically better improvement at 6 months in neurological functions of patients with HIBI.

Osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is a kind of disabling disease, given that the molecular mechanism of ONFH has not been elucidated, it is of significance to use bioinformatics analysis to understand the disease mechanism of ONFH and discover biomarkers. Gene set for ONFH GSE74089 was downloaded in the Gene Expression Omnibus, and "limma" package in R software was used to identify differentially expressed genes related to oxidative stress. Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment analyze were performed for functional analysis. ⋯ CIBERSORT analysis showed that 17 types immune cells were differentially relocated, and most of which were also closely related to key genes. In addition, genistein maybe potential therapeutic compound. In all, we identified that TNF, NOS3, and CASP3 played key roles on ONFH, and APOD, CASP3, NOS3, and TNF could serve as diagnostic biomarkers.

This study was designed to explore the effect of medical-nurse integration health education in aged patients undergoing percutaneous vertebroplasty. A total of 72 aged patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures, who obtained percutaneous vertebroplasty from June 2019 to May 2022 were selected in this study. Patients were divided into control group (n = 36) and experimental group (n = 36) according to the time of hospitalization. ⋯ The average Japanese Orthopaedic Association score of the observation group 1 week after operation was higher than that of the control group (P < .05). Moreover, most patients in the experimental group were very satisfied with the medical-nurse integration health education, while most patients in the control group were only satisfied (P < .001). For aged patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures treated by percutaneous vertebroplasty, medical-nurse integration health education could be an effective method to improve the ability of patients to obtain relevant education, enhance the compliance of patients for functional exercise and increase patient satisfaction to the education, and reduce residual low back pain in patients.

Sex-dependent difference in the relationship between thyroid hormones and gallstone disease in euthyroid subjects.
The relationship between thyroid dysfunction and gallstone disease (GSD) has been examined by some observational studies. However, evidence about the relationship between thyroid function and GSD among euthyroid subjects was scarce. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between thyroid function and the presence of GSD in a large-sample euthyroid subjects. ⋯ Subgroup analyses showed that the relationship between thyroid function and GSD was different according to gender, with negative association for ln (TT3/TT4) and (odds ratio:0.551, 95% CI: 0.306-0.992, P = .047) and positive association for TT4 (odds ratio:1.077, 1 95% CI: .001-1.158, P = .046) in men. None of the thyroid function parameters was significantly associated with GSD in women. Our findings indicated that low levels of TT3-to-TT4 ratio and high levels of TT4 were significantly and independently associated with GSD among euthyroid male subjects, but not female subjects.

Cystic fibrosis, a genetic disorder defined by variants in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene, affects more than 30 000 individuals in the US and approximately 89 000 worldwide. Absent or decreased function of the CFTR protein is associated with multiorgan dysfunction and shortened life expectancy. ⋯ Cystic fibrosis affects approximately 89 000 people worldwide and is associated with a spectrum of disease related to exocrine dysfunction, including chronic respiratory bacterial infections and reduced life expectancy. First-line pulmonary therapies consist of mucolytics, anti-inflammatories, and antibiotics, and approximately 90% of people with cystic fibrosis who are 2 years or older may benefit from a combination of ivacaftor, tezacaftor, and elexacaftor.
