Cardiac surgery using cardiopulmonary bypass has been shown to cause reversible postischemic cardiac dysfunction and is associated with reperfusion injury and myocardial cell death. Therefore, it is very important to have a series of measures in place to reduce oxygen consumption and provide myocardial protection. We performed a protocol for systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the effect of dexmedetomidine administration on myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury in patients undergoing cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass. ⋯ This meta-analysis will evaluate the efficacy and safety of dexmedetomidine in patients undergoing cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass.

8Spheres conformal microspheres as embolic agents for symptomatic uterine leiomyoma therapy in uterine artery embolization (UAE): A prospective clinical trial.
To evaluate the treatment efficacy of uterine artery embolization (UAE) using 8Spheres conformal microspheres for symptomatic uterine leiomyoma. In this prospective observational study, 15 patients were enrolled and underwent UAE by 2 experienced interventionalists from September 1, 2018, to September 1, 2019. All patients underwent menstrual bleeding scores, the symptom severity domain of the Uterine Fibroid Symptom and Quality of Life questionnaire scores (with lower scores indicating mild symptoms), pelvic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging, ovarian reserve tests (estradiol, prolactin, testosterone, follicle-stimulating, luteinizing, and progesterone), and other appropriate preoperative examinations within 1 week before UAE. ⋯ At the same time, there was no significant effect on changes in the biomarkers of ovarian reserve levels. Only the changes in testosterone levels before and after UAE were statistically significant (P < .05). 8Spheres conformal microspheres are ideal embolic agents for UAE therapy. This study showed that 8Spheres conformal microsphere embolization for symptomatic uterine leiomyoma could effectively relieve heavy menstrual bleeding, improve the symptom severity of patients, reduce the volume of leiomyoma, and have no significant effect on ovarian reserve function.

Comparative study between histochemical mucus volume, histopathological findings, and endocytoscopic scores in patients with ulcerative colitis.
Ulcerative colitis (UC) causes a reduction in goblet cells. However, there have been few reports on the relationship between endoscopic and pathological findings and mucus volume. In this study, we quantitatively evaluated histochemical colonic mucus volume by fixing biopsied tissue sections taken from patients with UC in Carnoy's solution and compared it with endoscopic and pathological findings to determine whether there is a correlation between them. ⋯ The relative mucus volume was significantly reduced in the local MES 1-3 groups, with worsening findings in EC-A/B/C and in groups with severe mucosal inflammation, crypt abscess, and severe reduction in goblet cells. The severity of inflammatory findings in UC by EC classification correlated with the relative mucus volume suggesting functional mucosal healing. We found a correlation between the colonic mucus volume and endoscopic and histopathological findings in patients with UC, and a stepwise correlation with disease severity, particularly in EC classification.

Chronic heart failure (CHF) is the ultimate destination of most cardiovascular diseases and one of the leading causes of death for the elderly. Despite significant advances in the therapy of heart failure, the mortality and rehospitalization rates remain high. Guipi Decoction (GPD) has been reported to be significantly effective on patients with CHF, but it still lacks evidence-based medicine support. ⋯ GPD can improve cardiac function and inhibit ventricular remodeling with few adverse effects. However, more rigorous and high-quality randomized controlled trials are needed to verify the conclusion.

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears are frequent ligamentous injuries that necessitate reconstruction in many cases. The patellar tendon and the hamstring tendon are the most frequently utilized autografts for reconstruction. However, both have certain disadvantages. ⋯ However, 6 cases of superficial wound infection were observed, 4 at the port site and 2 at the donor site. All resolved after appropriate oral antibiotic therapy. The peroneus longus tendon can be considered a safe, effective, and promising graft of choice for arthroscopic primary single-bundle ACL reconstruction because it has a good functional outcome and impressive donor ankle function after surgery.
