Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the nervous system, which is frequently accompanied by a pathological humoral immune response against aquaporin-4 water channel. The most common feature of the disorder is recurrent episodes of longitudinally extensive transverse myelitis and optic neuritis. Frequent relapse leads to the gradual accumulation of neurological dysfunction. Azathioprine (AZA) is an empirical attack -preventive immunotherapies drug to prevent the relapse of NMOSD, and tocilizumab (TCZ) has been also reported reduce the activity of NMOSD. Therefore, we designed this systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy between TCZ and AZA in the treatment of NMOSD patients. ⋯ The results of this study showed that the treatment of NMOSD patients with AZA and TCZ are associated with decreased number of relapses and disability improvement as well. In addition, compared with AZA, TCZ more significantly reduce ARR.

Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) describes a renal histologic lesion with diverse causes and pathogenicities. Monogenic abnormalities which are associated with impaired function of podocyte could result in FSGS. Most of genetic FSGS do not respond to immunosuppressive agents and often develop end-stage kidney disease. We reported a case of FSGS caused by myosin1e (MYO1E) mutation, alleviated by cyclosporine A (CsA) and low-dose glucocorticoid. ⋯ MYO1E autosomal recessive mutation was a rare FSGS causative mutation that might benefit from CsA treatment. However, the long-term effect of CsA on FSGS caused by this mutation should be investigated in the future.

Effect of nursing intervention based on continuity model on psychological stress state of patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
To explore the effect of nursing intervention based on continuity model on psychological stress state of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). A total of 128 patients with RA in our hospital from January 2015 to January 2017 were selected and divided into 2 groups by random number table method, 64 cases in each group. The control group received routine nursing, and the observation group received nursing intervention based on continuity model. ⋯ After receiving nursing intervention, the psychological stress scores of somatizations, anxiety and depression of all patients were significantly lower than before nursing, and the above scores of the observation group were significantly lower than those of the control group (all P < .05). After nursing, the positive coping score, negative coping score and quality of life score of all patients were significantly higher than those before nursing, and the above scores of the observation group were significantly higher than those of the control group (all P < .05). Nursing intervention based on continuity model can promote the recovery of physical function, improve psychological stress and negative emotions, and improve the quality of life of patients with RA, which is worthy of clinical application.

To identify the changes in cross-sectional areas (CSAs) and fatty infiltration of both sides of the paravertebral muscles and their associations with prognostic factors in patients who underwent unilateral lumbar discectomy. We retrospectively reviewed 27 patients who underwent magnetic resonance imaging before and after 1- or 2-level lumbar discectomy. The CSAs and functional cross-sectional areas of the paraspinal muscles were bilaterally measured from L1 to L2 to L5 to S1 based on T2-weighted axial images. ⋯ Similar results were also observed in the partial correlation adjusted for age and postoperative duration. Patients who underwent discectomy experienced overall paraspinal muscle atrophy in the lumbar region, including surgical and non-surgical sites. Such atrophic changes emphasized the need for core strengthening and lumbar rehabilitation from the early period after partial discectomy.

The impact of wearing powered air purifying respirators or N95 masks on the olfactory function in healthcare workers: A randomized controlled trial.
With the Coronavirus disease 2019 epidemic, wearing a mask has become routine to prevent and control the virus's spread, especially for healthcare workers. However, the impact of long-term mask wear on the human body has not been adequately investigated. This study aimed to investigate whether Powered Air Purifying Respirators and N95 masks impact the olfaction in healthcare workers. ⋯ Wearing a mask affects the healthcare workers' olfaction, especially odor sensitivity. Healthcare workers have a higher olfactory threshold after long-term mask wear, whether wearing PAPRs or N95 masks.
