Aim: To evaluate the pooled safety of sufentanil sublingual tablets (SSTs) administered at 30-mcg dose equivalents over ≤72 h for moderate-to-severe acute pain management in medically supervised settings. Patients & methods: Safety data from SST 30 mcg Phase III studies were pooled with an additional patient subset from studies in which two SST 15 mcg were self-administered within 20-25 min (30-mcg dose-equivalent). Results: Analyses included 804 patients. ⋯ Adverse events (AEs) were experienced by 60.5% (SST) and 61.4% (placebo) and treatment-related AEs by 43.8% (SST) and 33.5% (placebo; 10.3% difference; 95% CI: 2.0-18.6) of patients. No dose-dependent increase in oxygen desaturation was observed with SST. Conclusion: SST was well-tolerated, with most AEs considered mild or moderate in severity.

Effectiveness of intravenous acetaminophen for postoperative pain management in hip and knee arthroplasties: a population-based study.
The significance of intravenous over oral acetaminophen (APAP) as part of multimodal analgesic protocols is contested, particularly when considering its relatively high price and use in a surgical cohort such as total hip or knee arthroplasty (THA/TKA), which generally tolerates oral medications. This study aims to elucidate APAP's effectiveness in a large, population-based patient sample. ⋯ These results do not support the routine use of intravenous APAP in patients undergoing lower joint arthroplasty, especially since oral APAP shows more beneficial outcome patterns.

Several studies have suggested that the level of pancreatic division during distal pancreatectomy (DP) has an impact on postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) occurrence. The purpose of this study was thus to investigate the level of pancreatic division as a potential risk factor for POPF after DP for non-pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma lesions (non-PDAC) in the era of parenchyma-sparing resection. ⋯ Clinically relevant POPF and postoperative diabetes do not appear to be affected by pancreatic division level. The intention to prevent POPF or pancreatogenic diabetes should not influence the decision on level of pancreatic division during DP.

Postoperative analgesia for pediatric craniotomy patients: a randomized controlled trial.
Pain is often observed in pediatric patients after craniotomy procedures, which could lead to some serious postoperative complications. However, the optimal formula for postoperative analgesia for pediatric neurosurgery has not been well established. This study aimed to explore the optimal options and formulas for postoperative analgesia in pediatric neurosurgery. ⋯ Compared with other analgesic projects, PCIA or NCIA analgesia with morphine appears to be the safest and most effective postoperative analgesia program for pediatric patients who underwent neurosurgical operations.
