To investigate the prognostic implications of histology among nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) using the data from a Chinese cohort and the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. ⋯ Our study demonstrates the significant influence of histological subtypes on outcomes in NPC among various populations, highlighting substantial disparities between the WHO II and WHO III subtypes.

Recent studies suggest that adult cardiac surgery performed in the morning increases the risk of major adverse cardiac events, but it is unclear whether this association exists in pediatric cardiac surgery. This study aimed to determine whether the composite outcome of in-hospital mortality and low cardiac output syndrome (LCOS) differs between morning and afternoon pediatric cardiac surgeries. ⋯ Our study supports the selective afternoon scheduling of specific pediatric cardiac surgeries, but further investigation is needed in a multicenter cohort.KEY MESSAGESThis study reviewed 23,433 consecutive pediatric patients who underwent cardiac surgery between August 2014 and December 2021.This study suggested that afternoon surgery was associated with a lower risk of the composite outcomes of in-hospital mortality and low cardiac output syndrome.The above association was also determined in children aged 3 to 18 years, weighted between 6.1 and 8.7 kg, or more than 13 kg, and with STAT category 4-5 subgroups.The restricted cubic spline plot showed that the adjusted risk of the composite outcome decreased with a delay in the start time of surgery.Our findings support selective afternoon scheduling for specific pediatric cardiac surgery.

System delay is associated with mortality in patients undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). However, the influence of patient delay has been relatively overlooked. We aimed to evaluate the influence of patient and system delays on STEMI patients undergoing primary PCI in China. ⋯ Patient delay demonstrated a comparable impact to system delay on in-hospital mortality among STEMI patients undergoing primary PCI. Widespread primary PCI-capable center, improved awareness about myocardial infarction and regional transfer system are essential to shorten patient delay.

Outcome monitoring can support the delivery of quality service that meets the needs of clients, clinicians and services. However, few studies have examined client or staff perspectives on the design and implementation of outcomes monitoring within a service. Implementation of outcomes monitoring requires understanding the preferences and expectations of relevant stakeholders. ⋯ Findings suggest that an effective outcome monitoring framework should be client-led, tailored to the individual's needs, and provide feedback on progress. Outcomes monitoring should also be efficient, accessible and allow for safe information sharing.
