Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) initiatives within critical care research are limited by a lack of resources and inconsistent and rapidly changing language. The Canadian Critical Care Trials Group (CCCTG) is committed to modelling EDI for the critical care community through its programming, communications, protocols, and policies. The objective of developing the EDI glossary of sociodemographic determinants of health described here was to provide a resource for critical care professionals to support broader equity initiatives and to promote education and awareness about inclusive language. ⋯ This EDI glossary of sociodemographic determinants of health serves as a nonexhaustive resource that may be referenced by critical care researchers, research coordinators, clinicians, and patient and family partners. The glossary is an essential step to raising awareness about inclusive terminology and to fostering and advancing equity in critical care medicine.

ReviewBlood Pressure Management for Hypotensive Patients in Intensive Care and Perioperative Cardiovascular Settings.
Blood pressure is a critical physiological parameter, particularly in the context of cardiac intensive care and perioperative settings. As a primary indicator of organ perfusion, the maintenance of adequate blood pressure is imperative for the assurance of sufficient tissue oxygen delivery. ⋯ Nonetheless, uncertainties remain regarding blood pressure goals, and there is no consensus regarding blood pressure targets. This review describes the determinants of blood pressure, examine the influence of blood pressure on organ perfusion, and synthesize the current clinical evidence from various intensive care and perioperative settings to provide a concise guidance for daily clinical practice.

Multicenter StudyPatient recall of intensive care delirium: A qualitative investigation.
Many patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience delirium. Understanding the patient perspective of delirium is important to improve care and reduce suffering. The aim of our study was to investigate the subjective patient experience of delirium, delirium-related distress, and delirium management in ICU. ⋯ The ICU survivors in our study recalled delirium as an unpleasant and frightening experience, often leading to delirium-related distress during and after their ICU stay, indicating the necessity for enhanced assessment and treatment.

Acute orthopedic traumatic musculoskeletal injuries are prevalent, costly, and often lead to persistent pain and functional limitations. Psychological risk factors (eg, pain catastrophizing and anxiety) exacerbate these outcomes but are often overlooked in acute orthopedic care. Addressing gaps in current treatment approaches, this mixed-methods pilot study explored the use of a therapeutic virtual reality (VR; RelieVRx ), integrating principles of mindfulness and cognitive-behavioral therapy, for pain self-management at home following orthopedic injury. ⋯ The results support a larger randomized clinical trial of RelieVRx versus a sham placebo control to replicate the findings and explore mechanisms. There is potential for self-guided VR to promote evidence-based pain management strategies and address the critical mental health care gap for patients following acute orthopedic injuries.

Studies integrating an exhaustive longitudinal long-term follow-up of postintensive care syndrome (PICS) in critically ill COVID-19 survivors are scarce. We aimed to 1) describe PICS-related sequelae over a 12-month period after intensive care unit (ICU) discharge, 2) identify relevant demographic and clinical factors related to PICS, and 3) explore how PICS-related sequelae may influence health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in critically ill COVID-19 survivors. ⋯ ClinicalTrials.gov ( NCT04422444 ); first submitted 9 June 2020.
