To determine whether either bedside teaching alone (group A) or bedside teaching with written course materials (group B) improved written examination scores, satisfaction with the rotation, or clinical grades of rotating PGY1 residents. ⋯ Both instructional methods were associated with improved written test performance. Written course materials did not augment bedside teaching in terms of test scores, clinical grades, or satisfaction with the rotation. At a university-based, high-volume ED, bedside teaching offers educational benefit to rotating PGY1 residents that may not be augmented by written course materials.

Twenty-four of the thirty-two German universities that have dental schools replied to a questionnaire survey that showed that all the schools responding held lectures on the topic "Medical Emergencies" although this is not mandatory for registration. All of the universities in the former East Germany also offered practical training sessions as part of the curriculum. The proportion of West German universities offering such courses is only 60%. The basic essentials of the theory and practice of emergency medicine should only be taught in courses with mandatory participation.

Designing an emergency medicine physician workstation to support risk management in decision making.
The practice of emergency medicine requires rapid decision making. The speed of decision making in the face of limited information contributes to the high risk of medical malpractice suits. ⋯ Because adaptation and adaptability to physician needs are critical to user acceptance, design to workflow, multisite end user customization, and integrated database support are used to support risk management documentation in EMstation. This article describes techniques that can be incorporated into electronic medical products which may prevent adverse medical events.
