To determine the availability and relative use of pediatric analgesia and sedation at sites of U.S. emergency medicine residency training programs. ⋯ Emergency medicine residencies generally have available agents for pain control and conscious sedation in children, although the agents used vary widely. Appropriate instruction by trained faculty should enhance resident experience with pediatric pain control and sedation.

This article is the first of a two-part series outlining the objectives for emergency medicine residents on a cardiology rotation. Cardiology is offered as an off service rotation or an elective at some emergency medicine residency training programs. ⋯ We have developed a written core curriculum containing a subject content list, learning objectives, and references for emergency medicine residents on cardiology services. This is the 28th in a series of objectives for off-service rotations for emergency medicine residents.

To create new versions of the written, multiple-choice examination used in the American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support course, evaluate their reliability and difficulty, and then design revised versions with improved reliability and of standardized difficulty. ⋯ After field testing and revision, five examinations with acceptable reliability and roughly equal difficulty were constructed. The new examinations test the participants' knowledge of important aspects of resuscitation science and practice based on a blueprint of the course content.
