The potential role of gut microbiota in pain modulation is arousing an emerging interest since recent years. This study investigated neuromodulatory properties of gut microbiota to identify next-generation probiotics to propose alternative therapies for visceral pain management. Neuromodulation ability of 10 bacterial strains isolated from a healthy donor was assessed both on ND7/23 immortalized cell line and primary neuronal cells from rat dorsal root ganglia. ⋯ Antihyperalgesic effect unlikely involved modulation of inflammatory processes or restoration of intestinal barrier. Exploration of direct dialogue mechanisms between this strain and nervous system, assessed by calcium imaging experiments, revealed that F1-2 interacts directly with nociceptors by reducing activation level on capsaicin, inflammatory soup, and bradykinin stimulations. Our study provides new insights about bacteria-host interaction and places P distasonis as a potential therapeutic strategy in the treatment of visceral pain observed in leaky gut-associated pathologies.

The aim of the study is to determine whether the assessment of postoperative pain and timely measures to control it improve the quality of medical care in intensive care units (ICUs). To develop an improvement model with a focus on pain assessment and control. 151 patients were included in the study, divided into two groups: a retrospective group (RG)-60 patients and a prospective group (PG)-91 patients. A multimodal approach to pain control was applied to all patients. ⋯ There was no statistically significant difference in balancing indicators between the two groups. Conclusion: The conducted survey confirmed the positive effect of the model. Quality improvement in the ICU depends on accurate assessment of postoperative pain and timely and adequate treatment.

Managing chronic pelvic pain (CPP) remains a challenge due to its diverse range of causes. A newly identified anatomical entity known as the enthesis of the levator ani muscle (LAM) and its associated disorders might play a role. This paper describes a novel insight into CPP's origin, aiming to improve accurate diagnosis and treatment. ⋯ Pain in LAM enthesis is a novel cause of pelvic pain and LUTSs that warrants attention for the evaluation and management of CPP.

Stellate Ganglion Block Therapy for Complex Regional Pain Syndrome: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
Sympathetic ganglion block (SGB) technique is becoming increasingly prevalent in the treatment of complex regional pain syndromes (CRPS). Given the varied reported effectiveness of these techniques and the heterogeneity of treatment regimens, there is an urgent need for consistent and high-quality evidence on the efficacy and safety of such procedures. ⋯ SGB therapy can reduce pain intensity in patients with CRPS with few adverse events. However, owing to the relatively high heterogeneity of the included RCTs, a larger sample of high-quality RCTs is needed to further confirm this conclusion.

Despite high satisfaction rates, reduction mammaplasty can have complications such as hematoma. Factors such as age, tobacco use, and comorbidities are known contributors, whereas the influence of race, BMI, certain medications, and blood pressure (BP) remain contentious. This study investigates hematoma risk factors in young women undergoing reduction mammaplasty. ⋯ Age, ketorolac use, and intra- and postoperative BP peaks and variability are risk factors for hematoma in reduction mammaplasty. This emphasizes the importance of perioperative BP management and optimizing pain management protocols.
