Clavicle fractures are common fractures with a rate of 2-5 percent among fractures. Mid-shaft fractures of the clavicle are more common than the other sites of the clavicle. Traditionally, surgical fixation of clavicle fractures has been performed under General Anesthesia (GA). ⋯ In the current study, 30 patients with clavicle fractures were surgically fixed using the WALANT technique. The obtained results showed that it could be an effective technique for pain control during the operation and also early postoperative period. Moreover, the WALANT technique could be considered safe in patients who are at risk for GA because of medical comorbidities, cervical spine injuries, or other factors that make intubation difficult.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic, centralized pain syndrome characterized by disordered processing of painful stimuli. Fibromyalgia is diagnosed more frequently in women and occurs globally, affecting 2% of people in the United States. Patients with fibromyalgia have diffuse chronic pain, poor sleep, fatigue, cognitive dysfunction, and mood disturbances. ⋯ Patient education, exercise, and cognitive behavior therapy can improve pain and function. Duloxetine, milnacipran, pregabalin, and amitriptyline are potentially effective medications for fibromyalgia. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and opioids have not demonstrated benefits for fibromyalgia and have significant limitations.

Burn injuries are to this day a major cause of morbidity and mortality, especially within low- and middle-income countries. Understanding the etiology of burn injury and epidemiologic- and hospital-specific factors associated with burns is vital for allotting resources for prevention and treatment. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to develop a profile of epidemiological differences in burn care and the ideal burn dressing among the different continents based on a global online survey. ⋯ Our results suggest significant epidemiological differences regarding burn injuries and care amongst the continents, possibly resulting from the different infrastructure and/or circumstances on the various continents. Future scientific studies need to focus on adequate pain management and designing longer lasting materials that contain the "ideal" properties, by also taking individual regional needs/desires and the patient's perspective and economic boundaries into account. This analysis has delivered valuable insights into the epidemiological differences and/or similarities amongst the various continents.

Feasibility of Investigational Procedures and Efficacy of a Personalized Omega-3 Dietary Intervention in Alleviating Pain and Psychoneurological Symptoms in Breast Cancer Survivors.
Breast cancer survivors (BCS) are at risk for psychoneurological symptoms (PNS) and inflammation for years following cancer treatment. Fish, particularly salmon, provides a rich source of omega-3 long chain fatty acids (omega-3LC), which has an anti-inflammatory effect. However, the benefit of omega-3LC on PNS is not well-known. ⋯ Our results support the feasibility of our investigational design, procedures, and intervention. The outcomes provide preliminary support for an expanded research effort using fish as a source of omega-3LC and personalized dietary planning as a vehicle for symptom self-management in BCS.

A growing number of individuals report prolonged symptoms following acute Coronavirus-19 (COVID-19) infection, known as post-COVID-19 condition (post-COVID-19). While studies have emerged investigating the symptom sequelae of post-COVID-19, there has been limited investigation into the characterization of pain, fatigue, and function in these individuals, despite initial reports of a clinical phenotype similar to fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS)/myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME). This study aimed to characterize multiple symptom domains in individuals reporting post-COVID-19 and compare its clinical phenotype with those with FMS and CFS. ⋯ The comorbid diagnosis of post-COVID-19 with FMS and/or CFS further exacerbated pain, fatigue, and psychological domains when compared with post-COVID-19 alone. In summary, individuals with post-COVID-19 report a symptom phenotype similar to FMS and CFS, negatively impacting cognitive and physical function, but with less severe pain and fatigue overall. These findings may help direct future investigations of the benefit of a biopsychosocial approach to the clinical management of post-COVID-19.
