Characteristics and Outcomes of Critically Ill Children With Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome.
To characterize the prevalence of pediatric critical illness from multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) and to assess the influence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) strain on outcomes. ⋯ Overall mortality from MIS-C was low, but the disease burden was high. There was a peak in MIS-C cases during Q1 of 2021, following a shift in viral strains in Q1 of 2021. However, an improvement in MIS-C outcomes starting in Q4 of 2020 suggests that viral strain was not the driving factor for outcomes in this population.

Review Meta Analysis
Tracheostomy outcomes in critically ill patients with COVID-19: a systematic review, meta-analysis, and meta-regression.
We performed a systematic review of mechanically ventilated patients with COVID-19, which analysed the effect of tracheostomy timing and technique (surgical vs percutaneous) on mortality. Secondary outcomes included intensive care unit (ICU) and hospital length of stay (LOS), decannulation from tracheostomy, duration of mechanical ventilation, and complications. ⋯ PROSPERO CRD42021272220.

Observational StudyIn-Hospital Depressed Level of Consciousness and Long-Term Functional Outcomes in ICU Survivors.
Among critically ill patients, acutely depressed level of consciousness is associated with mortality, but its relationship to long-term outcomes such as disability and physical function is unknown. We investigated the relationship of level of consciousness during hospitalization with long-term disability and physical function in ICU survivors. ⋯ Depressed level of consciousness, as defined by the RASS, was not associated with disability or self-reported physical function. Future studies should investigate additional modifiable in-hospital risk factors for disability and poor physical function following critical illness.

ReviewUsing Qualitative Synthesis to Explore Heterogeneity of Randomized Trials on ICU Diaries.
We aimed to identify which set of components differentiates the ICU diaries that were effective in reducing psychologic symptoms after critical illness. ⋯ For patients under MV for at least 3 days, the ICU diaries that were effective in preventing psychiatric symptoms after critical illness were written by the ICU staff, delivered after hospital discharge, and read with a healthcare professional in order to better understand the diary and the ICU stay. For family members, the presence of photographs was the only characteristic identified a successful ICU diary.
