Epidemiology of spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and unruptured intracranial aneurysm (UIA) is valuable for determining neurosurgical and general health care effectiveness. There is an information gap regarding these conditions in middle- and low-income countries. Therefore, we aimed to investigate hospitalization and mortality rates for SAH and UIA in Brazil from 2011 to 2019. ⋯ In Brazil, the SAH hospitalization trend is stable, although there is a worrisome increasing SAH-related mortality trend. A better scenario was observed for UIA, with an increase in hospitalizations and decrease in mortality.

The Link between Vitamin D and the Risk of Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage: A Systematic Review.
Vitamin D (VD) is one of the fat-soluble vitamins proposed to be associated with aSAH. According to the clinical evidence, this investigation explores the link between VD concentrations and clinical outcomes in aSAH patients. ⋯ This study highlights the complex association between VD concentration and the risk of aSAH. The observed inconsistencies in study outcomes suggest that the relationship between VD and aSAH is multifaceted and may be influenced by various factors, including study population, geographical location, and methodological approach.

Rates of operative intervention and in-hospital mortality following subarachnoid hemorrhage in patients with COVID-19.
COVID-19 had massive effects on the healthcare system and multifactorial implications for the management of intensive care unit and cerebrovascular patients. This study aimed to assess the effect of COVID-19 on the outcomes of patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). ⋯ COVID-19 had significant impacts on patients with nontraumatic SAH. Specifically, patients with COVID-19 were significantly less likely to undergo surgery and had higher in-hospital mortality rates; however, for patients who did undergo procedural intervention, there was no significant difference in the type of intervention. Multiple factors, from medical acuity to healthcare system limitations, may contribute to these findings. Further retrospective research is needed to identify both specific causes of lower intervention rates and other potential nonaneurysmal causes of SAH in patients with COVID-19.

Neurofilament light chain (NfL), a biomarker reflecting neuro-axonal damage, may be useful in improving clinical outcome prediction after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). We explore the robust and additional value of NfL to neurologic and radiologic grading scales in predicting poor outcome after aSAH. ⋯ In the entire aSAH cohort, plasma NfL has an acceptable predictive performance but does not improve clinical outcome prediction. However, NfL may have potential value in subgroups based on hemorrhage severity.

Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is recognized as an especially severe stroke variant, notorious for its high mortality and long-term disability rates, in addition to a range of both immediate and enduring neurologic impacts. Over half of the SAH survivors experience varying degrees of neurologic disorders, with many enduring chronic neuropsychiatric conditions. Due to the limitations of traditional imaging techniques in depicting subtle changes within brain tissues posthemorrhage, the accurate detection and diagnosis of white matter (WM) injuries are complicated. ⋯ Despite challenges associated with scanning technology differences and data processing, DTI demonstrates significant clinical potential for early diagnosis of cognitive impairments following SAH and monitoring therapeutic effects. Future research requires the development of highly standardized imaging paradigms to enhance diagnostic accuracy and devise targeted therapeutic strategies for SAH patients. In sum, DTI technology not only augments our understanding of the impact of SAH but also may offer new avenues for improving patient prognoses.
