Impact of pre-existing medical conditions on mortality in geriatric trauma: a nationwide study in Japan.
To investigate the relationship between pre-existing medical conditions and outcomes in elderly trauma patients in Japan. ⋯ Data from JTDB suggests that pre-existing conditions like moderate or severe liver disease, congestive heart failure, and moderate or severe renal disease in elderly trauma patients are positively correlated with in-hospital mortality.

Residing in a disadvantaged neighborhood has been linked to increased mortality. However, the impact of residential segregation and social vulnerability on cause-specific mortality is understudied. Additionally, the circulating metabolic correlates of neighborhood sociodemographic environment remain unexplored. Therefore, we examined multiple neighborhood sociodemographic metrics, i.e., neighborhood deprivation index (NDI), residential segregation index (RSI), and social vulnerability index (SVI), with all-cause and cardiovascular disease (CVD) and cancer-specific mortality and circulating metabolites in the Southern Community Cohort Study (SCCS). ⋯ Among low-income Black/African American adults and non-Hispanic White adults living in the southeastern United States, a disadvantaged neighborhood sociodemographic environment was associated with increased all-cause and CVD and cancer-specific mortality beyond standard risk factors. Circulating metabolites may unveil biological pathways underlying the health effect of neighborhood sociodemographic environment. More public health efforts should be devoted to reducing neighborhood environment-related health disparities, especially for low-income individuals.

Clinical Outcomes of Clipping and Coil Embolization for Ruptured Intracranial Aneurysms Categorized by Region and Hospital Size: A Nationwide Cohort Study in Korea.
To analyze the outcomes of clipping and coiling for ruptured intracranial aneurysms (RIAs) based on data from the National Health Insurance Service in South Korea, with a focus on variations according to region and hospital size. ⋯ Using Korea NHIS data, mortality rates for RIAs showed no significant variation by hospital size due to coiling's prevalence. However, differences in clipping outcomes by hospital size and volume in TRGH highlight the need for national efforts to improve clipping skills and standardization. Additionally, the higher mortality rate with SAC emphasizes the importance of precise indications for its application.

Impact of the Early COVID-19 Pandemic on Emergency Department Visits of Adult Cancer Patients With Fever or Respiratory Symptoms: A Korean Nationwide Population-Based Study, 2016-2020.
We performed a nationwide analysis to evaluate the impact of the early coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on emergency department (ED) visits by adult cancer patients having COVID-like symptoms. ⋯ Further studies are needed to highlight the importance of ED service preparation in planning and managing resources for cancer patients during future pandemics.

Background and Objectives: This study aimed to assess the prevalence, predictors, and outcomes of pulmonary hypertension (PH) in patients with lupus nephritis (LN). Materials and Methods: Baseline characteristics and clinical outcomes of 387 patients with LN were retrospectively collected from 2007 to 2017. PH was defined as pulmonary artery systolic pressure ≥40 mmHg assessed by resting transthoracic echocardiography. ⋯ Higher mean arterial pressure, lower hemoglobin, and lower triglyceride levels were associated with greater odds of having PH. After adjusting for relevant confounding variables, PH was independently associated with a higher risk for death (HR: 2.01; 95% CI: 1.01-4.00; p = 0.047) and renal events (HR: 2.07; 95% CI: 1.04-4.12; p = 0.039). Conclusions: PH is an independent risk factor for all-cause mortality and adverse renal outcomes in patients with LN.
