Depression is a public mental health problem that can progress to suicidal ideation, literature suggests regular physical activity may ameliorate it. The study assessed the link between physical activity and depression symptoms during the fifth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Academic Staff Union (ASU) strike among undergraduates. Four hundred and eighteen undergraduates were recruited and participated in the study. ⋯ This suggests that a high PA level is associated with lower depression symptoms. The COVID-19 pandemic and the ASU strike experiences resulted in increased depression among undergraduates. The university administration needs to formulate an urgent policy to promote PA among undergraduates and provide treatment for the affected students.

Characteristics of patients with chronic hepatitis B infection in China: A retrospective claims database study.
Chronic hepatitis B (CHB) infection affects approximately 90 million people in China, where there are profoundly unmet clinical and public health needs. This study evaluated patient demographics, disease progression, and treatment management using national administrative claims data. This retrospective, observational study used anonymized data from the China Health Insurance Research Association claims database (January 1-December 31, 2016); data that could not be validated, or from duplicate entries, were excluded. ⋯ The most frequently visited hospitals were Tier III; patients visiting Tier III generally required more hospital care compared with those visiting Tier I/II hospitals. Only two-thirds of patients were prescribed antiviral therapy for CHB (most commonly nucleos(t)ide analogues). Results from this study highlight a substantial need to improve access to appropriate CHB treatment in China.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a major public health concern. But there are limited machine learning studies on non-cancer patients with advanced CKD, and the results of machine learning studies on cancer patients with CKD may not apply directly on non-cancer patients. We aimed to conduct a comprehensive investigation of risk factors for a 3-year risk of death among non-cancer advanced CKD patients with an estimated glomerular filtration rate < 60.0 mL/min/1.73m2 by several machine learning algorithms. ⋯ Additionally, SVM with linear kernel function had the highest specificity of 0.9983, while its sensitivity and F1-score were poor. Logistic regression had the best performance, with an area under the curve of 0.8527. Evaluating Taiwanese advanced CKD patients' EMRs could provide physicians with a good approximation of the patients' 3-year risk of death by machine learning algorithms.

This study aimed to analyze the distribution of gout patients and the utilization of healthcare services in South Korea to provide valuable recommendations to clinicians and policymakers. A cross-sectional study was conducted. Claims data from the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service spanning 2010 to 2019 were utilized, and a sample of 69,680 patients was included in the study. ⋯ Although the total costs of gout management increased, there was no significant increase in cost per patient. This study provides insights into the current state of healthcare utilization for gout patients in South Korea and trends in the disease burden and use of medications. The findings have crucial implications for clinicians and policymakers involved in decision-making regarding the management and treatment of gout.

Cefepime-Taniborbactam in Complicated Urinary Tract Infection.
Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales species and multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa are global health threats. Cefepime-taniborbactam is an investigational β-lactam and β-lactamase inhibitor combination with activity against Enterobacterales species and P. aeruginosa expressing serine and metallo-β-lactamases. ⋯ Cefepime-taniborbactam was superior to meropenem for the treatment of complicated UTI that included acute pyelonephritis, with a safety profile similar to that of meropenem. (Funded by Venatorx Pharmaceuticals and others; CERTAIN-1 ClinicalTrials.gov number, NCT03840148.).
