Obesity and diabetes of different types are considered global health risks with rising prevalence. In addition to low-calorie diet and daily exercise, several treatment options have been introduced to help patient in needs. Semaglutide (Ozempic) is one popular agent, which attracted the attention of both physicians and patients due to its positive outcome in improving glucose control and weight loss. However, no reports on the effect of semaglutide use on the oral cavity and specifically xerostomia are available in the literature. We are reporting 3 cases for patients who were using semaglutide and developed secondary xerostomia. ⋯ We are reporting for the first time hyposalivation associated with the use of semaglutide. Further prospective, larger studies are warranted to confirm these findings.

Sarcopenia is characterized by a loss of muscle mass and strength and is associated with a high risk of cardiovascular events and increased mortality. Pulse pressure (PP) serves as a marker for changes in heart structure and function, as well as arterial stiffness. A high PP also increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality. ⋯ The high-PP group had a higher prevalence of low muscle mass than the control group in all models. A high PP is significantly associated with a higher prevalence of low muscle mass. Therefore, PP monitoring may help identify individuals at risk of sarcopenia and guide interventions to improve health outcomes.

Observational study on obesity: Insights from middle-aged and elderly college staff in Beijing.
Obesity poses a serious global public health challenge, particularly among middle-aged, and elderly college staff. This study aims to explore the associated factors of obesity by analyzing the metabolic indicators of 1756 university staff from Minzu University of China, Beijing. ⋯ Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that BMI values increase with age (B = 0.074, P < .001), uric acid (B = 0.008, P < .001), alanine transaminase (B = 0.043, P < .001), low-density lipoprotein (B = 1.941, P < .001), triglycerides (B = 0.544, P < .001), total cholesterol (TC, B = -1.582, P < .001), and other factors, while decreasing with the increase of high-density lipoprotein (B = -1.493, P < .001). In light of these findings, it is recommended that middle-aged and elderly college staff undergo regular blood indicator checks and enhance weight management to mitigate the risk of obesity and promote their overall health.

This study aimed to investigate the diagnostic utility of percutaneous ultrasound-guided needle biopsy conjunction with GeneXpert MTB/RIF for epididymal tuberculosis. A retrospective analysis was conducted on the pathological and laboratory examinations of 20 patients with epididymal lesions undergoing ultrasound guided biopsy at Shandong Public Health Clinical Center. Laboratory examination included acid-fast staining, Mycobacterium tuberculosis culture by BACTEC MGIT 960, and GeneXpert MTB/RIF test. ⋯ The diagnostic value analysis of the 3 detection techniques indicated that the GeneXpert MTB/RIF technique (Kappa = 0.765, Area under the curve (AUC) = 0.933) was superior to Mycobacterium tuberculosis culture (Kappa = 0.200, AUC = 0.667) and acid-fast staining (Kappa = 0.154, AUC = 0.633). Ultrasound-guided percutaneous biopsy is a safe procedure. The GeneXpert MTB/RIF test has high sensitivity, specificity, and superior AUC value, which are of great value in the diagnosis of epididymal tuberculosis and rifampicin resistance detection.
