Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a bi-atrial disease yet little attention has been given to right heart function in AF. We propose that the assessment of right atrial (RA) and right ventricular function (RV) using two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography (2D-STE) could be valuable in predicting AF recurrence in patients with paroxysmal AF (PAF). ⋯ Two-dimensional STE is useful and highly reproducible in assessing right heart function in AF patients. RA booster strain function was predictive of sinus rhythm maintenance for up to 1 year.

Hyperangulated vs. Macintosh videolaryngoscopy in adults with anticipated difficult airway management: a randomised controlled trial.
It is not certain whether the blade geometry of videolaryngoscopes, either a hyperangulated or Macintosh shape, affects glottic view, success rate and/or tracheal intubation time in patients with expected difficult airways. We hypothesised that using a hyperangulated videolaryngoscope blade would visualise a higher percentage of glottic opening compared with a Macintosh videolaryngoscope blade in patients with expected difficult airways. ⋯ Glottic view and first attempt success rate were superior with hyperangulated videolaryngoscope blades compared with Macintosh videolaryngoscope blades when used by experienced anaesthetists in patients with difficult airways.

Localization of cholinergic innervation and neurturin receptors in adult mouse heart and expression of the neurturin gene.
Neurturin (NRTN) is a neurotrophic factor required during development for normal cholinergic innervation of the heart, but whether NRTN continues to function in the adult heart is unknown. We have therefore evaluated NRTN expression in adult mouse heart and the association of NRTN receptors with intracardiac cholinergic neurons and nerve fibers. Mapping the regional distribution and density of cholinergic nerves in mouse heart was an integral part of this goal. ⋯ GFRalpha2 was present in most cholinergic nerve fibers and in Schwann cells and their processes throughout the heart. Some cholinergic nerve fibers, such as those in the sinus node, also exhibited Ret immunoreactivity. These findings provide the first detailed mapping of cholinergic nerves in mouse heart and suggest that the neurotrophic influence of NRTN on cardiac cholinergic innervation continues in mature animals.

To determine the prevalence of dental caries, and associated social risk factors among preschool children in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. ⋯ Dental caries among preschool children in Saudi Arabia was still very common. Improvement of preventive measure at early age should be emphasized by parents and dental health professionals. More attention is required for Non-working parents telling them about the risk of dental caries affecting their children and the awareness of preventive care of dental health.

Dairy products intolerance is defined by existing of gastrointestinal symptoms following dairy product consumption. Its prevalence varies among different countries. This study is conducted to determine the frequencies and severities of intolerance symptoms in the consumption of different dairy products in Iranian students of Medical Sciences. ⋯ Students tolerate other dairy products better in comparison with milk. In the present study, the phenomenon as irritable bowel syndrome was not strongly associated with the severity of all symptoms in dairy intolerant persons. Also, there were weak association between the severity of symptoms with dairy consumption and avoidance, but more studies are needed to evaluate calcium absorption and osteoporosis in symptomatic cases.
