The completeness and accuracy of the Norwegian Female Incontinence Registry.
Medical quality registries have gained popularity as tools for monitoring the quality of medical treatments and they serve as data sources for research. The Norwegian Female Incontinence Registry (NFIR) was established in 1998 to monitor and improve the quality of surgery for women with stress and mixed urinary incontinence in Norway and to collect data for research. This study aimed to assess the completeness and accuracy of the Norwegian Female Incontinence Registry, and potential differences in data accuracy over time and according to surgical volume of the reporting hospitals. ⋯ The Norwegian Female Incontinence Registry is a reliable tool for quality assessment of incontinence surgery and research. The registry completeness has improved over time and now contains data on nearly all women undergoing incontinence surgery in Norway.

Spinal Neuronal GRK2 Contributes to Preventive Effect by Electroacupuncture on Cisplatin-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy in Mice.
The main symptoms of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) include pain and numbness. Neuronal G protein-coupled receptor kinase 2 (GRK2) plays an important role in various pain models. Cisplatin treatment can induce the activation of proinflammatory microglia in spinal cord. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of spinal neuronal GRK2 in cisplatin-induced CIPN and in the prevention of CIPN by electroacupuncture (EA). ⋯ Neuronal GRK2 in the spinal cord contributed to the preventive effect of EA on CIPN. The neuronal GRK2 may be a potential target for CIPN intervention.

TBI-the most complex disease in the most complex organ: the CENTER-TBI trial-a commentary.
Each year, approximately 2.5 million people experience some form of traumatic brain injury (TBI) in Europe. One million of these are admitted to hospital and 75 000 will die. ⋯ The Collaborative European Neuro-Trauma Effectiveness Research in TBI (CENTER-TBI) study promises to use the natural variability seen in the management of TBI across Europe with the application of Comparative Effectiveness Research (CER). It will generate repositories of baseline and comprehensive TBI patient data, neuroimaging, neurogenetics and biomarkers, which aim to improve the diagnosis, stratification, management and prognostication of patients with TBI.

The lifestyle of military personnel has been little studied in Brazil. This study evaluated the frequencies of tobacco and alcohol use, sexual behavior and mental health among military students. ⋯ The frequencies of smoking and CMDs were low, while the frequency of alcohol consumption was similar to that of the Brazilian population. The use of condoms was low, in comparison with previous studies with similar samples. The results suggest that there was a certain degree of protection against CMDs and STDs during the undergraduate years.

Early parenteral nutrition in critically ill patients with short-term relative contraindications to early enteral nutrition: a randomized controlled trial.
Systematic reviews suggest adult patients in intensive care units (ICUs) with relative contraindications to early enteral nutrition (EN) may benefit from parenteral nutrition (PN) provided within 24 hours of ICU admission. ⋯ The provision of early PN to critically ill adults with relative contraindications to early EN, compared with standard care, did not result in a difference in day-60 mortality. The early PN strategy resulted in significantly fewer days of invasive ventilation but not significantly shorter ICU or hospital stays.
