AbstractAcupuncture is widely used as treatment for a variety of disorders. A case of bilateral pneumothorax associated to acupuncture in the thoracic region is described. A middle-aged man in acute respiratory distress presented to the emergency room, after having received acupuncture a few hours earlier. Bilateral pneumothorax was diagnosed and treated with bilateral chest tubes. The patient was later discharged with no further complications. In Denmark there is no organised reporting of complications associated to treatment with acupuncture.
