AbstractCentral venous port systems are an integral part of chemotherapy. Early recognition and management of arterial malposition are crucial to prevent further complications. A 67-year-old female with breast cancer underwent central venous port implantation for adjuvant chemotherapy. After administration of the first chemotherapy the patient developed acute bihemispheric cerebral infarction and myocardial ischemia due to arterio-arterial emboli with a toxic encephalopathic component. After systemic lysis and surgical removal of the central venous port system, the patient showed a complete recovery.
