AbstractDescending deep neck space infections are serious conditions that appear as a complication of cervical and odontogenic infections. Infecting bacteria descend into the mediastinum causing systemic toxicity and septic shock. Liver transplant patients are at increased risk of developing life-threatening infections, but reports about descending deep neck space infections in these patients are scarce. Here, we report a case of deep neck infection resulting in mediastinitis in a liver transplant patient. Streptococcus anginosus was isolated in blood cultures.
