AbstractRecently, surgeon scientists have started to grapple with structural racism’s effect on health and prior academic failures in codifying and promoting institutionalized racism in research and clinical practice. In this Surgical Perspective, we hope to describe our journey of being humbled by the vast work of social epidemiologists on racism and health, and we will offer our reflections on how to apply this work to future research and practice.
