AbstractEvery pregnancy is associated with risks but a number of factors denoting 'high risk' have been identified. Scoring systems devised to assess cumulative risk levels have limited application. Of greater value is recognition of specific risk factors such as the hazards associated with maternal age, parity, social status, alcohol consumption and place of delivery. New risk factors are those associated with certain methods of pregnancy management.
