AbstractAchilles tendinopathy can be a chronic disabling condition affecting both athletic and sedentary patients. Multiple new treatment approaches have developed, including shock wave therapy and various types of injection. One of the novel treatment methods used is the injection of Aethoxysklerol or polidocanol, a sclerosing substance injected under ultrasound guidance targeting areas of neovascularisation. We report the case of a 78-year-old lady who suffered a complete Achilles tendon rupture following injection of Aethoxysklerol. This is the first case of Achilles tendon rupture following Aethoxysklerol injection in isolation to our knowledge in the literature and the first published complication of this treatment.Copyright © 2016 European Foot and Ankle Society.
