AbstractExamination of 127 patients with generalized prostate cancer established a low prophylactic effect of systematic treatment with strontium-39 chloride: it failed to alleviate pain in metastatic cancer, nor was it followed by longer mean survival. Repeat systematic radiotherapy is not indicated when palliative measures such as hormonal therapy, local radiotherapy and chemotherapy are still effective.
