AbstractThe Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center Department of Neurosurgery in Shreveport consistently strives to maintain the most current innovations in the neurosurgery field and to produce neurosurgeons of the highest quality. The history of the neurosurgery department is deeply tied to the history of neurosurgery in northwest Louisiana, and it is impossible to discuss one without the other. The department stems from a rich history of cooperation among prominent physicians, politicians, and volunteers, and it is of indeterminable value to explore the department's history as it expands and takes a more prominent role on a national level.
