AbstractDentists and oral hygienists experience nowadays more frequently the need for special (medical) care for their patients. After consulting the family doctor or medical specialist the dental treatment must often be modified to fit the patient's general condition. The dental professional asks in these circumstances for expertise; in the field of oral medicine the dentist is the expert for the family doctor or medical specialist.
