AbstractDysesthetic pain after spinal cord injury is a common problem. The pathophysiology of this disorder is unclear and treatment modalities have been of inconsistent effectiveness. Various pharmacologic approaches have been advocated for treatment of chronic pain in spinal cord injury, including the use of either anticonvulsants or antidepressants. This case report describes the successful use of carbamazepine in conjunction with amitriptyline in the treatment of dysesthetic pain in a patient with spinal cord injury.
