AbstractThe issue of legal responsibility around decision-making in critical care units is one that can lead to confusion and uncertainty. This paper aims to examine the nature of decision-making in critical care and the legal basis for decision-making. The roles and responsibilities of doctors and nurses in critical care are explored. Both legal responsibility and legal accountability for decision-making in critical care are considered.
