AbstractSir William Osler, the first physician-in-chief of the Johns Hopkins Hospital and later Regius Professor of Medicine at Oxford, is judged by many to be the greatest clinician of the modern era. His life history of distinguished service to medicine and to society is well known. What is not so well known is his mischievous streak.
