AbstractInfection following surgical procedures leads to increased morbidity and mortality in all populations. Guidelines to aid providers in the proper use of prophylactic antibiotics exist for adults, but are rare in the neonatal surgical population. A recent emphasis on appropriate antibiotic stewardship had led to the development of more guidelines without a coincident increase in surgical site infection. Robust data from randomized, controlled trials, however, remain sparse.Copyright © 2019. Published by Elsevier Inc.
