AbstractCoccygodynia is pain in the region of the coccyx. Treatment is primarily conservative, but some patients have persistent pain and may require surgical treatment. This study was performed to investigate if patients benefit from coccygectomy where conservative treatment has failed. Via a search on MedLine, we found 24 studies including a total of 702 patients who had undergone coccygectomy. Overall, 83% had an excellent or good result. We recommend coccygectomy for selected patients with intractable coccygodynia.
