AbstractIndependent lung ventilation with two ventilators is sometimes used in the management of bronchopleural fistula (BPF). We describe a patient in whom gas flow through a large BPF was initially reduced, and subsequently eliminated, during differential lung ventilation using a single ventilator and a variable-resistance valve attached to one lumen of a bifurcated endotracheal tube.
