AbstractTechnology is frequently viewed as a barrier to workflow and efficiency rather than as a tool that can be used to improve the quality of our care, increase efficiency, or enhance patient outcomes. However, when technology is applied effectively, nurse leaders can leverage tools such as clinical decision support to avoid errors, inform decision making, and boost provider and patient satisfaction. These topics were discussed at the AONE annual meeting in a preconference session. In this article, AONE session leaders detail ways to ensure that information technology is a valuable tool-and not an obstacle-for effective nursing practice.
