AbstractThe Scottish Medical Journal has been published for half a century and its pages reveal not only the steady changes in Scottish medical care and careers, but also reflect the attitudes of the times. The Journal has survived a number of crises. Recent changes, both at the Journal and in Scottish politics, leave it well placed for an expanded and important place in Scottish medicine.
