AbstractEnvironmental pollution of rural settlements in the vicinity of Totsk nuclear explosion was investigated. The findings show that the blanket of snow, soil and drinking water in the polluted area did not differ from those in the control district. High levels of stable strontium in the soil and drinking water and those of iodine in the water were detected. The concentrations of plutonium-239, 240 and cesium-137 in the soil were higher than the levels of global sediments and the baseline values of cesium-137 for the Orenburg Region.
