AbstractSoft tissue defects in the hand with exposed tendons, bones, or joints present difficult reconstructive challenges. A wide variety of highly sophisticated intrinsic flaps offer a wide range of therapeutic options of locoregional soft tissue coverage to achieve acceptable aesthetic and functional results. This article gives an overview of the various groups of flaps, indication, and their use in clinical situations based on the experience with more than 100 flaps over a 4-year period.
