AbstractThere are few reports in the scientific literature that describe tested methods for helping people quit using spit (smokeless) tobacco. This paper reports data from a pilot study to determine the effectiveness of two dental-oriented interventions to promote cessation of ST use among major league baseball players. These preliminary findings suggest that interventions involving an oral examination and advice to quit, combined with behavioral counseling, may effectively decrease ST use among professional baseball players.
