AbstractPersonal construct psychotherapy and its utility in understanding and treating addictions is explored. Several clinical phenomena related to chemical dependency are discussed from the perspective of constructivism. Framed within the context of Prochaska, DiClemente, & Norcross' (1992) stages of change model, several psychotherapeutic techniques are outlined. These concepts and techniques are offered as theoretically based heuristics and are intended to illustrate the potential utility of a clinical approach based upon personal construct theory.
